A delegation from the Chair of Hardware-Software Co-Design at FAU, led by Prof. Jürgen Teich, accepted an invitation from the Integrated Systems Engineering Laboratory (Prof. Takashi Sato, Prof. Kiichi Niitsu, Prof. Hiromitsu Awano) to visit Kyoto University in Japan. During a three-day workshop, the latest research results in the field of electronic design automation (EDA) for machine learning and quantum computing architectures, as well as approximate computing and AI-based robotics, were presented, and opportunities for cooperation were discussed.

Moreover, the Processor Research Team led by Dr. Kentaro Sano at the RIKEN Center for Computational Science in Kobe was visited. Here, insights into the next generation of HPC systems were gained, and opportunities for mutual research in the field of (reconfigurable) processor arrays were discussed.

Alongside the scientific program, there was also the chance to explore Kyoto’s rich historical world heritage.
