Ferienakademie Sarntal, South Tyrol, 22 Sept – 4 Oct 2019
Prof. Dr. Rolf Wanka (FAU) and Prof. Dr. Harald Räcke (TUM) led the course Modern Algorithmics: randomized, online, approximated at the Ferienakademie Sarntal, organized by FAU, TUM and University of Stuttgart. Prof. Dr. Stefan Funke from University of Stuttgart also made a visit for a couple of days.
The thirteen participants of the three universities presented talks on recent algorithmic solutions in the fields of combinatorial and continuous optimization. After this, they implemented Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) exploring capabilities of PSO applied to some benchmark functions. Furthermore, a genetic algorithm was implemented to train a neuronal network capable to play the wellknown game Worm.
Of course, there was also some time left for hiking in the beautiful mountains of South Tyrol and to visit Bozen. (opens in a new tab)
